A confident, direct attacking player is on every manager’s wishlist. And while the depths of Peruvian football isn’t at the top of every scout's agenda, Universitario’s Piero Quispe has shown why that might be an outdated opinion.
The 22-year-old featured on 34 occasions as Universitario won the domestic league against title rivals Alianza Lima in their own stadium. In true South American fashion, the hosts chose to turn the lights off immediately at full-time so the celebrations wouldn’t be caught on camera.
Call it petty, call it a moment of quick thinking, but Quispe had already shone on his own long before the title had been decided.
